History
Our country has one of the highest mountain in the world and although we do not identify with the mountain is a richness inherent in all Chileans, for their mineral resources, sports, tourism etc. We are among those who believe that this land has great potential and untapped resources and we are in the task of professionalizing the work of seasons that everything moves over an immense passion and devotion to the mountain, perhaps the same as Don Roberto felt Barrington who watched from the air Farellones of Cerro Colorado.
It is hard to imagine the tremendous effort that the pioneers did at this time remembered as "the ski poncho." Every week in a caravan departed from Santiago to "Corral Quemado" slept there, for an early start the ascent by mule or on foot, after hours of walking we reached what is now the Great Descent Farellones. Around 1934 he started the fight for a way in which, the assistance of Agustín Edwards was instrumental in bridging the gap with our mountains for two years later, under the government of Arturo Alessandri, a pike and shovel from Corral Quemado to curve 40, to start construction (completed in 1939).
Make homeland in the mountains mean to those pioneers, sweat, tears and joy by believing in a dream and be part of this vast overwhelming. The construction effort bore fruit in 1935, when the Ski Club built the shelter Chile Chico, current Farellones school.
In 1939 there was the first lift powered by a tractor paraffin, then in 1941 came the second with a hook to lift up. In 1949 he built the first lift anchor on the floor of the funnel.
In 1937, Mr. Von Kiesling makes the first subdivision of the population of Farellones. Years later, in 1948 and Luis Santiago Roi Middleton managed to make the second batch which is what we have today.
In 1952 construction began on the first double chair lift from the base of the slopes of Cerro Colorado to the summit, with a length of 2,200 meters. Remarkably, the initial project envisaged a much greater length of 4 km, starting in Farellones, but finance or technology allowed to make such a dream. This lift is put into operation in 1954, building on a mule and a tremendous sacrifice, as they worked to get summer and winter.
In 1965 he built Farellones way to Colorado, a year later came the electric power facilities were consistently higher, yielding as the opening of the current Farellones school, which opened in 1971 by Professor Luis Alarcon.
Located 32km. Santiago, in the basin of Mapocho, commune of Lo Barnechea, Farellones is a separate ski center, with a great future and currently has 4 ski lifts, restaurants, ski schools, hotels, chapel, school education basic first aid post, Municipal Delegation, Carabineros de Chile, Red Cross, the families who live there are carriers, beds and caregivers of shelters and work for the municipality, or in different centers. Farellones is the only mountain village that is kept alive throughout the year since the roads here are born to the most important ski centers in Chile, El Colorado, La Parva and Valle Nevado.
After several years without many changes for the first time in summer, in January 2010 was inaugurated the first mountain park in Santiago, which brings together in one place more than nine different activities that include mountain biking, climbing, games air, hiking, horseback riding, paintball, mountain cars, mountain board, cultural tour, etc., making Farellones, the most complete mountain park in central.
